Dr Alla Mironenko (Ukraine): The spread of COVID-19 can be of political and economical nature

Our team recorded an interview with Professor Alla Mironenko, Doctor of Medical Science, Head of the Department of Respiratory and other viral infections at L.V. Gromashevsky Institute of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases - the leading epidemiological institute of Ukraine. Currently, she is engaged in the research of COVID-19. She is one of the participants of COVID 2020 International Conference.

The professor does not exclude the political and economic aspects of the virus spread. Alla Mironenko highlights the fact that the virus appeared in China much earlier than in other countries and this fact was concealed. "At that time, the world lost at least three weeks in preparing for the pandemic," she says.

Alla Mironenko says China and other countries have a monitoring system created for the 2009 influenza epidemic. Now this system is actively used for COVID-19 in many countries, including the CIS countries.

According to the professor, summer temperatures can stop the flow of diseases, but this does not apply to those who have already contracted the virus. She believes that self-isolation is an effective method to combat COVID-19, as the results in China and some European countries have confirmed this.

The professor recons that the vaccine could be available by the end of this year.
